KATE LYNCH: FARM

Somerset’s food and farming heritage is celebrated in a new exhibition by local artist Kate Lynch. The exhibition marks the reopening of the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury and includes more than 40 paintings and drawings made on 19 farms, mostly in central Somerset. The pictures are the result of two years of visits to historic Somerset farms where Kate shadowed
herdsmen, sheep and pig farmers, apple growers, cheese and cider makers, and growers of willow and wheat. Kate has recorded their family stories and the colourful history of the farms in a hardback book that is being published to accompany the exhibition.
Working in oils, pastels and willow charcoal, Kate creates atmospheric drawings and paintings of rural life and interviews her subjects. Farm is the first temporary exhibition to be held at the museum following its £2.4 million refurbishment, led by the South West Heritage Trust. A series of events will run alongside the exhibition, including charcoal drawing workshops, a talk about Kate Lynch’s project and a Farmers’ Market to include autumn produce from the featured farms.
