AMANDA WALLWORK: ‘MAPPING THE SOUTH DORSET RIDGEWAY’

AMANDA WALLWORK: ‘MAPPING THE SOUTH DORSET RIDGEWAY’

7 June - 9 June

In spring 2016 the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and The Arts Development Company ran a competition inviting new work that would inspire people visiting the South Dorset Ridgeway.
This spring, six hand drawn maps, a field guide to the landscape and a large sculpture will enhance any visit to the South Dorset Ridgeway - what experts have described as “one of the richest and most important cultural landscapes in England.” The series of maps and guide are produced by AMANDA WALLWORK, one winner of the competition. Amanda has a long-standing interest in exploring geology and archaeology through her work. As Amanda says, “This project has enabled me to incorporate a long-term interest in maps, walking, routes, trackways, archaeology and geology, bringing together ideas of the physical experience of landscape and the presence of the past with notions of rocks as vast data stores recording everything.” Each map shows at least one suggested walking or cycling route, carefully chosen by the AONB Team to provide highlights of this remarkable landscape.
