OPEN FOR ART

“This new signature open studio art event for South Dorset features more than 80

artists in over 40 venues across the area. The event has been organised voluntarily by

members of the not for profit arts organisation Artwey. This is a great opportunity for the

public to see art in many diverse locations and venues. People are often curious to enter

the world of the artist, and ‘Open For Art’ will be showcasing in places from individual

artists’ studios to group exhibitions in galleries, cafes, hotels, libraries and historic town

halls. Artwey’s aim is to promote local art and culture and make artwork accessible to

all. They have been hosting bi-annual open studios in Weymouth and Portland since

2009, but this year have expanded to include Dorchester and Poundbury, and have their

largest ever number of artists exhibiting. Some are taking part for the first time, while

others have participated in previous Artwey and Dorset Art Weeks events. From painting

and sculpture, to encaustic wax, glass and textile art and jewellery, there is work in

many styles, shapes and sizes. The brochure guide is free from tourist information

centres, libraries and cafes, arts shops and art venues. More information about

individual artists and group shows is also available, along with an interactive map, on

the website.”
